今回は《インバウンドの視点！簡単英語で通訳ガイド案内シリーズ》の《兼六園！栄螺山（さざえやま）》です。このシリーズでは、インバウンドを色々な場所へご案内する際に、目の前の風景に視線を奪われているインバウンドに極力思考の負担をかけないよう、よりわかりやすい簡単表現を目指してご紹介しています。
栄螺山（さざえやま）
この小山の前に来て、素直に’これは何？’と思われる多くのインバウンドを想定して、下記にオススメ例ご紹介します。いつも通り、日本語で言えないことは英語でも言えませんので、日英の順番です。また、雑踏の中を歩きながらでも理解できる、よりシンブルな表現を目指すのも、固有名詞を極力控えるのもいつも通りです。
正面から見て
そもそも何？（What？）
- この広い池を掘り広げたときの土を利用してつくった築山です。
- 小さな山ですが、山頂からこの池が眺められます。
- 頂上へ登る道は、時計回りでぐるぐるとうずを巻いています。
- 山の形がまるでサザエの殻 のようなのでサザエ山と呼ばれています。
- This is a man-made mound created using soil from the excavation and expansion of this large pond.
- It is a small mountain, but from its summit, you can enjoy a view of the pond.
- The path to the summit winds around in a clockwise direction.
- The mountain earned the name ‘turban shell mountain’ due to its shape, which resembles one. 👉サザエ（turban shell）の他に巻貝（ shell of a conch）の言い方もあります。
頂上に着いて
- 庭園の築山の頂上にはこのような小さな建物がよく見られます。
- 本来目的は休憩や気候対応ですが、今は安全上の理由から利用できません。
- ここから見下ろすと池の周りの四季の植物が楽しめます。
- 春の桜や秋の紅葉は取り分け美しく、非常に混雑します。
- この三重の石塔はこの築山を作った領主の近親者の供養のために建立されました。
- This kind of small building is often constructed at the top of the garden’s raised areas.
- It was originally intended for resting and shelter from the weather, but it is no longer available for safety reasons.
- When looking down from here, one can enjoy the seasonal plants surrounding the pond.
- The cherry blossoms in spring and the autumn leaves in the fall are especially beautiful, attracting large crowds of people.
- This three-story stone pagoda was erected as a memorial to the lord’s family who built this mountain.
