６．唐崎松（からさきのまつ）

この庭園では、このように枝を支えられた大きな老松は他にもありますが、この松は遠方から取り寄せられた種から育てた著名な黒松なのです。
In this garden, you’ll find other large, ancient pine trees with branches supported just like this one. However, this particular tree is a striking black pine, grown from a seed imported from a distant place.
当時の領主は異種の黒松を加えることで庭に変化を付けて、あなた方のような招待客を驚かせたかったのですが、驚きましたか？
Back in the day, the lords wanted to introduce some variety to the garden by planting this unique black pine species, aiming to surprise their esteemed guests, much like yourselves. So, I must ask, did it indeed surprise you?

この種を取り寄せた領主の名前が書かれてますが、サムライ時代の終わりに近づき、一族の栄華の証としてこの立派な松を残したかったのかもしれませんね。
It mentions the name of the lord who commissioned this particular species. As the Samurai era was drawing to a close, he probably wished to leave behind this magnificent pine tree as a testament to his family’s glory.
この松の木の種は日本最大の湖（琵琶湖）の側の松の名所からきたとありますが、サムライも結局有名ブランドに弱かったんですね。
It’s noted that the seed for this tree came from the famous pine trees located near Japan’s largest lake, Lake Biwa. After all, even the Samurai were not immune to the allure of established legacies.
