『ぼかし』『虫食い』英語でネイティブの腑に落ちる説明？音声付！通訳ガイドが《加賀友禅》わかり易く解説

　本日、商談で訪日中の重要顧客とタクシーで金沢市内移動中に『加賀友禅』を着て歩いている女性グループを見て、相手から色々聞いてきたので、それに対応するシチュエーションです。いつも通り、できるだけ簡単にわかり易くご説明して、ぜひ一度見てみたい！試してみたい！と思わせることを目指します。

１．基本情報：『加賀友禅』説明前の背景知識として

《日本語》

1. 古来より着物の生地は技術的に単純な色彩でしかそめられず複雑な色表現は不可能だった。
2. 約三百年前に微細に色分けが出来る技術が導入され、着物で絵画的な風景や抽象的デザインが表現できるようになった。
3. その色分けの技法とそれによる斬新なデザイン性を主導したのが「友禅斎」という職人で、その手法を使った着物に彼の名前「友禅」が広く使われるようになった。
4. 「友禅斎」は起業家で彼の友禅ブランドを京都と金沢で立ち上げたが、元々は扇のデザイナーであった。
5. 彼の革新的に美しい作品は大ヒットし、多くの彼の名「友禅」を語る偽者が横行した。
6. その為、彼について信頼性のある記録が殆ど残っておらず現在は伝説的な人物とみなされている。
7. 友禅ブランドは日本各地へ広まったが、特に個性的で対照的な京都友禅と加賀友禅がトップブランドとなった。
8. 一般的に京友禅は抽象的デザインが多く、貴族文化を背景に豪華な金銀箔や刺繍が使われている。
9. 対して金沢の加賀友禅は派手さを嫌う武士文化を反映して落ち着いたデザインが多く花鳥風月をベースにしている。
10. 加賀友禅では金箔加工、絞り染め、刺繍の様な自然界に存在しない物の表現手法は殆ど使われない。
11. 友禅技法は着物の上に糸の様に細い糊の線で絵の輪郭を書く手法で、高い技術力が要求められる。
12. その線が防波堤の様に機能し隣の色と混るのを防ぎ複雑な色彩の絵が表現できるようになった。
13. 写実性を増すため、加賀友禅では、原色でなく、加賀友禅５色と呼ばれる落ち着いた中間色をベースにしている。
14. 単調さを避けるため、同じ色の箇所で濃淡で変化をつける「ぼかし」手法や意図的に虫が食った葉を描く手法が特徴である。

《日本語》

1. Since ancient times, kimono fabrics have technically been dyed only in simple colors, making it impossible to express complex colors.
2. About 300 years ago, technology was introduced that enabled fine color separation, making it possible to express pictorial landscapes and abstract designs on kimonos.
3. The craftsman who led this color-coding technique and the novel designs that resulted from it was called “Yuzen-Sai,” and his name “Yuzen” came to be widely used for kimonos that used this technique.
4. “Yuzen-Sai” was an entrepreneur who launched his Yuzen brand in Kyoto and Kanazawa, originally being a fan designer.
5. His innovatively beautiful work was a huge hit, and many imposters who spoke of his name “Yuzen” were rampant.
6. For this reason, there are few reliable records of him, and he is now considered a legendary figure.
7. Yuzen brands spread throughout Japan, especially the unique and contrasting Kyoto Yuzen and Kaga Yuzen, which became the top brands.
8. In general, Kyoto yuzen is often abstract designs with a lot of gorgeous gold and silver foil and embroidery against the backdrop of aristocratic culture.
9. In contrast, Kanazawa’s Kaga yuzen, reflecting the samurai culture that disliked showiness, often has subdued designs based on flowers, birds, winds, and the moon.
10. Kaga Yuzen rarely uses methods of expressing objects that do not exist in nature, such as gold leaf processing, tie-dyeing, and embroidery.
11. The yuzen technique is a method of drawing the outline of a picture on a kimono with thread-like thin lines of paste, and requires a high level of technical skill.
12. The lines function like a breakwater, preventing the colors from mixing with neighboring colors and making it possible to express complex colors in the painting.
13. In order to increase realism, Kaga yuzen is based not on primary colors, but on a subdued intermediate color called the Kaga yuzen five colors.
14. In order to avoid monotony, the “blurring” technique, in which the same color is varied by shading, and the technique of intentionally depicting leaves eaten by insects are also characteristic.

2.2　回答例

1. 日本人は昔から日常的に目的や用途に合わせて様々な種類の着物を身に付けますので特別な流行ではありません。
2. 派手に見えるかもしれませんが、フォーマルな訪問用によく使われるタイプの着物です。
3. 茶道や書道等の日本の伝統文化に係る活動をしている人々が日常的に着用しています。
4. 街中の量販店の多くは洋服がメインですので和服専門店で購入できます。
5. デザイナーの知名度や工程数、素材によりますが高いものは数千万円から数万円の安価なものまで様々です。
6. 着物の高価な素材と緻密なデザインに強い日光や雨は変色やシミの元なので、専用ガードを着て、後のメンテも必要です。
7. 芸者が着ている着物は接待専用の高価なデザイン物で同じ高価でも日常的に使う着物とは異なります。
8. 友禅は元々は描かれた絵の隣り合った色が混ざらない技法で、今はその友禅技法による高価なデザインを施されたプレミアムな着物を指します。
9. 友禅は手書きか型紙を使ってデザインされた絵柄をベースに完成まで10を越える工程を経て数ヶ月から1年以上かけて複数の職人により作られます。
10. 加賀友禅は貴族的で豪華な京友禅と対照的に武家的な控えめで写実的なデザインを特徴としています。
11. 着物も洋服と同様、専用クリーニングにかけたり、湿気や虫食いから守るため専用タンスで保管します。
